Galerie GLASKASTEN

Opened in 2019, Galerie Galerie GLASKASTEN offers another exhibition space for contemporary art, with a large shop window out onto the district. The gallery is located in the studio and project house Jakobstr. 42. Thanks to the proximity to the Werkstudio and many other studios, works created directly in the neighbourhood are exhibited alongside international artistic perspectives.

    Three imaginative stories from equatorial Kenya. The same images, but each time a different narrative. Through synchronised dynamic images, each sequence offers different stories that reveal elements of cultural hybridity in the sense of the exploitation of the local environment in favour of post-colonial tourism. Through the composite videos, the artist, among other things, comes to terms with his own feelings of undercutting exotic attractions referring to African culture and identity.

    Group exhibition at Galerie Glaskasten and Galerie HINTEN

    For the opening of the Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, we are participating with the format "Aus dem Häuschen" and inviting art lovers to discover visual art from Chemnitz in addition to the main programme of the Capital of Culture. To this end, artists from the studio houses and the Klub Solitaer neighbourhood will come together in a group exhibition at Galerie HINTEN and Galerie Glaskasten.

    The exhibition is the start of a cooperation with the "Künstlerhaus 188" in Halle. The artists from this studio house will be exhibiting later in the year.
