Galerie HINTEN

Galerie HINTEN emerged from the art and culture festival “Begehungen”. Since 2011, it has been supporting young artists from all over Europe, providing them with an independent, non-commercial project space for the exhibition of contemporary art in Chemnitz. Painting, drawing, photography, installation, sculpture – diverse forms of visual art from different genres are presented here to old-established Sonnenberg residents, tourists and newcomers alike.

    The “transition year” leading up to Legacy is slowly drawing to a close, and as we haven’t quite reached our destination yet, we’re turning our attention to the third and final instalment of our series RUNTERKOMMEN, bringing Claudia Kleiner and Heinz Schmöller from the GEH8 art space in Dresden to the HINTEN Gallery.

    When the familiar suddenly becomes unfamiliar.

    The ‘transition year’ leading up to Legacy is slowly drawing to a close, and as we haven’t quite reached our destination yet , we’re turning our attention to the third and final part of our RUNTERKOMMENseries , bringing Claudia Kleiner and Heinz Schmöller from Dresden’s GEH8 art spaceto Galerie HINTEN.

    ‘Jamais-vu’ describes the moment when something that is actually familiar suddenly appears unfamiliar, alien or unreal. This is precisely where the exhibition begins: with our perception and the subtle shifts that throw it off balance.

    Frequencies, waves, repetitions, deviations.
    Visual vibrations meet sound; painting meets object and film. Claudia Kleiner explores subtle structures through the medium of painting, whilst Heinz Schmöller translates them into space – and into motion.

    What repeats itself? What falls out of step? And at what point do we suddenly see something we actually know with fresh eyes?

Galerie Hinten is located in the back of the Lokomov cultural space and is accessible during its opening hours.
